**Hungary’s PM Talks to Russia on Ukraine**
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban spoke with Russian President Volodymyr Putin for an hour on December 11. The two leaders discussed the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
**Dangerous Times Ahead**
After the call, Mr. Orban wrote that these are the “most dangerous weeks” of the war. He said Hungary is doing everything it can to persuade for a ceasefire and peace talks.
**Orban’s History with Ukraine**
This isn’t the first time Mr. Orban has spoken out on this issue. In 2022, he opposed sending military aid to Ukraine and instead called for peace talks that would give Russia control over occupied territories. This stance caused tension within the EU.
**Meeting with Trump**
The conversation between Mr. Orban and President Putin comes after his meeting with newly elected US President Donald Trump on December 10. Hungary is reportedly positioning itself as a mediator in the conflict.
