Paata Davitaia, chairman of the “European Democrats” party, explained why he attended a session of the parliamentary temporary investigative commission.
Davitaia said that since the session was about the 2008 war between Georgia and Russia, every word he said would be carefully considered. He wanted to make it clear why he was attending the session, as many people were interested in this topic.
The chairman pointed out that some political parties had given different answers to what happened during the war. Davitaia wants to establish a clear truth about what happened and how it was handled.
Davitaia also mentioned that he provided information to the Prosecutor‘s Office of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague. He said that an investigation into the war is ongoing, and every word he says could be important for this case.
Because Russia is watching the session, Davitaia stressed that he would say only what was true and would follow the law. His words could be used against Georgia at the ICC’s Prosecutor’s Office.
