US Supports Georgia’s Protests
The people of Georgia have been protesting for almost 40 days. These efforts have started to show results. Paata Manjgaladze, a leader from the Strategy Builder group, believes that the US is trying to help Georgia.
The US supports democracy around the world. When a government confronts its own people, the US responds in a similar way. It treats them the same as they treat their opponents. The Georgian Dream government has been opposing its people and undermining democracy.
Paata Manjgaladze said that the US is a friend of Georgia. This is why it’s taking action against regimes that block the country‘s path to integration with Europe.
The ongoing protests have led to significant results. The international community no longer recognizes Mikheil Kavelashvili as a legitimate president. New packages of sanctions are also coming for the government, not for the Georgian people.
A key figure, Salome Zurabishvili, will play a crucial role in this process. There is a general agreement among Georgians on new elections and the release of political prisoners. The Dream party may be in agreement at a low level but can’t tell their leader, Bidzina Ivanishvili.
