A Temporary Investigative Commission in the Georgian Parliament is looking at the activities of the “National Movement.” But critics say it’s not about getting answers, it’s about punishing and silencing opponents.
Paata Manjgaladze, General Secretary of “Strategy Aghmashenebeli,” says the commission is a “betrayal commission” that’s trying to silence those who defended Georgia. He claims statements made in the commission are already being used against Georgia by Russia.
Manjgaladze says it’s hypocrisy to ask people why they defended their country. He adds that the real goal of the commission is not to solve problems, but to distract from them.
The commission was set up to look at the activities of the “National Movement.” But some say its mandate should be expanded to include a longer period of time.
Some politicians are using the findings of this commission to try and ban opposition parties.
