**Palestinian Christians Struggle to Find Christmas Hope**
The city of Bethlehem, in the occupied West Bank, is usually bustling with tourists during the Christmas season. But this year, it’s quiet. The street decorations and giant Christmas tree are missing, and public celebrations have been cancelled for the second year due to the war in Gaza.
**A Sad City**
Reverend Dr Munther, a Lutheran pastor, says that Bethlehem is a sad city because of its solidarity with the people of Gaza. “It’s hard to believe another Christmas has passed and the genocide continues,” he said at a prayer service held at the Nativity Church. The church’s Nativity Scene shows Jesus lying on a pile of rubble.
**A Desperate Situation**
The war in Gaza has resulted in over 45,000 deaths, according to the UN and other organizations. Many Christians in Bethlehem are depressed and feel that other Christian groups around the world have failed to speak up for them. Dr Yousef Khorri, a theologian who was born in Gaza City, says that his family and others are suffering due to the lack of aid.
**Economic Struggle**
The economy in Bethlehem is also struggling due to the absence of tourists. Guides and souvenir sellers are out of work, and many local families have emigrated over the past year. A community group is trying to make a change by packing food parcels for the needy.
**Spreading Christmas Cheer**
Wael, the head of the Palestine Lions Club, says that Christmas is a time of love, joy, and giving. “We hope that this parcel will bring some joy and hope to the families of our area,” he said as he delivered a parcel to a woman who lives in the apartment next door. Her husband is ill and out of work.
