“During the Scandinavian meeting, we stressed two things: if the EU’s decision is based upon merit, then Georgia deserves to be considered for candidacy. Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Parliament, said that if the decision is made based on geopolitical factors then Georgia deserves to be considered.
He said that if you look at the situation objectively, Georgia has a leading position compared to other candidate countries.
“We believe that in cases of merit and geopolitical expediency there should be positive position. A message was sent to all three countries by the EU to open the possibility of applying to be a candidate due to geopolitical reasons. The three countries have worked hard to fill out the questionnaire. We are now waiting for the EU’s decision. They will acknowledge the hard work, the struggle, and the hardship that the Georgians have experienced. We are expecting the positive and fair decision that we strive for from the European Union,” Papuashvili stated.
