EU Ambassador Speaks Out on Violence Against Women
The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is on November 25th. On this day, EU Ambassador to Georgia Paweł Herczyński made a statement.
He said that violence against women is not just a personal problem, but also a human rights issue. He noted that one in three women worldwide has experienced physical or sexual violence at least once in their life. In Georgia, it’s even higher – one in two women have experienced some kind of violence.
The EU Ambassador wants to make sure women can live without fear and be protected from violence. He thinks that by speaking out about the problem and removing the shame around it, we can make a difference.
To help with this, the European Union is funding projects in Georgia that educate people about the issue and give support to those who need it. These projects also aim to change how society views women and promote the use of a special app that helps keep people safe.
The Ambassador’s message for this year’s “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence” is simple: we all must work together to create a world where everyone is respected, dignified, and safe.
