On the occasion of World Environment Day, today, the Austrian Embassy and the Austrian Development Cooperation opened an exhibition at Krtsanisi Forest Park of Friedensreich Hundrtwasser, the famous Austrian artist and environmental activist.
The opening of this outdoor art exhibition in the wild nature outside Tbilisi was a celebration of World Environment Day, and an acknowledgement that Austria has supported Georgia‘s efforts to protect its resources and environment. Mariam Shergelashvili is an independent curator at the State Silk Museum and co-founder of ALGORITHM F5. She was also the curator for the exhibition. The exhibition will remain open for public viewing for several months (see the below program).
The exhibition’s opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Levan Davitasvhili, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia; Mr. Thomas Muehlmann, Austrian Ambassador in Georgia; Mr. Alexander Karner, Head of the Tbilisi Office of Austrian Development Agency; Mr. Rezo Bezhashvili the Director of National Wildlife Agency; Ms. Nana Janashia Executive Director of CENN and Mr. Shota Rekhviashvili the State Representative of Kvem
The event also revealed the three winners of the painting contest Guest of Nature, which was open to schoolchildren across Georgia. They received gifts from Plastic Watcher. They will visit the Embassy. During the event, the paintings of the students were also displayed.
Along with the exhibition and the weekly school excursions and events, there will be a series of events and trips throughout June and the beginning July.
Every year, on June 5, World Environment Day is celebrated to remind people of the importance nature. The day is celebrated around the world to remind people that nature must not be taken for given and must be respected. In response to the United Nations initiative, 2021 was declared the Year of Ecosystem Restoration and Nature Conservation. To celebrate this, we present the vision of Hundertwasser’s world in Krtsanisi Forest Park.

The Exhibition
This exhibition in nature allows visitors to immerse themselves into the world of Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundrtwasser. Visitors are invited to engage with his spiral continuity idea and his unique multicolored, nonstraight, vibrant, circular shapes and lines. Visitors will learn more about Austrian actions in Georgia, and how they are closely linked to turning the artist’s vision into reality, as they stroll through the park. The exhibition not only displays the beautiful art of Hundertwasser but also highlights the work done by the Austrian Development Cooperation by its partners.
The exhibition in Krtsanisi gives people the opportunity to feel like they are guests of nature. They can explore the authentic flora, fauna and biodiversity that surrounds them.
Krtsanisi Forest Park
Krtsanisi forest park offers visitors a chance to relax in a natural setting, away from the bustle and noise of the city. The paths are decorated with beautiful alleys, making it easy to walk and ride a bicycle. This is a great place for picnics, camping and educational tours. The National Wildlife Agency is currently restoring and developing Krtsanisi forest park.
Krtsanisi forest park has elements of floodplains forests, which are of extreme importance to biodiversity conservation. The Park is home to over 215 species of fauna, including 54 endemic and extinct species.
