**US Says No North Korean Troops in Ukraine**
The United States does not believe that North Korean troops are in Russian-controlled areas of Ukraine. Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said this on November 25.
North Korea has been training with Russian troops in the Kursk region, but they have not moved into Ukraine yet. This is according to a statement from the Pentagon.
**Reports Confirmed**
In recent days, there were reports that around 11,000 North Korean soldiers had arrived in Russia’s Kursk Oblast. They were said to be training with Russian troops to fight against Ukraine.
A source close to Ukraine’s General Staff told Reuters on November 23 that most of the North Korean soldiers were finishing their training. This was after a surprise Ukrainian incursion into the Kursk region in August.
**Russian Goals**
Russia has been trying to regain control over territory it lost in the Kursk Oblast. NATO allies believe this is because Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to show strength before US President-elect Donald Trump‘s inauguration on January 20.
**North Korean Casualties**
There were reports that around 500 North Korean troops had been killed in the Kursk region, but the US could not confirm this.
“We cannot independently confirm those reports,” Singh said. “What we’ve said is that they’re in the region and are prepared to fight against Ukraine.”
