The upcoming Jan. 9 summit of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG) will focus on supporting Ukraine’s defense capabilities, the Pentagon said.
**Ukraine to Establish Credible Deterrent Force by 2027**
The UDCG leaders will discuss and endorse roadmaps outlining Ukraine’s air force, armor, artillery, de-mining, drone, integrated air and missile defense, information technology, and maritime security needs through 2027. These roadmaps aim to enable donors to plan for and support Ukraine sustainably into the future.
**Trump‘s Comments on Ukraine Spark Controversy**
President-elect Donald Trump sparked controversy by blaming President Joe Biden for provoking Russia‘s war in Ukraine. Trump said that Biden’s support for Ukraine’s NATO aspirations was a factor in Russia’s invasion.
**NATO to Maintain Control of Aid Channel**
Leaders of the U.S.-led UDCG previously considered implementing NATO control over the Ramstein format to maintain weapons supplies to Kyiv. In June, NATO countries signed off on a plan for the alliance to take over part of the aid channel from the U.S.
**European Countries Offer Support to Ukraine**
Several European countries have expressed interest in deploying peacekeepers to Ukraine, amid concerns that Trump will end military aid for Ukraine. The UDCG consists of over 50 countries, including all 32 NATO members.
