Peter Stano, spokesperson for the EU External Action Service said at the briefing that there is no EU mission to help Georgia increase its resistance to disinformation and interference.
Stano has answered the question about the elections. Specifically, whether they are working to combat the spread of misinformation in Georgia and Moldova.
Stano also noted that the European Union continues its assistance to Georgia with another monitoring mission.
“Our support for Georgia is multifaceted, and we have worked intensively with our partners, especially the Georgian Government, on many issues up until recently. Then, a big shift happened in Georgia when officials from the Georgian government began using disinformation against European Union. This is why our relations took on a slightly new direction, as discussed by the Foreign Affairs Council and the leaders of the European Union during the European Council. There is no EU mission to help Georgia strengthen its resistance to interference or disinformation because, unfortunately, this time, the disinformation came from the official side. We continue to assist Georgia with a different mission, the observation mission. This is due to the current situation relating to the separatist groups of Abkhazia & South Ossetia. Peter Stano said that he hoped that a renewed perfect cooperation with Georgian authorities would be possible if upcoming elections were free, fair, and in accordance to international and European standards.
