**Georgian Government Faces Backlash**
The government of Georgia, known as “Georgian Dream“, is planning to make significant changes to the country’s laws. These changes are aimed at suppressing protests and dissent, but many Georgians disagree.
According to Petre Tsiskarishvili, General Secretary of the opposition party “United National Movement”, these repressive measures will only anger people more. He believes that the key is to understand the sequence of protests: first, Georgia must be freed from the current government led by Bidzina Ivanishvili, and then fair and free elections can take place.
**What Do the Changes Mean?**
The planned legislative changes include:
* Prohibiting protests in enclosed spaces or buildings without permission
* Increasing fines for minor offenses such as vandalism and disobedience to law enforcement
* Classifying verbal insults towards state officials as an administrative offense
* Punishing public calls for violence with up to three years in prison
* Increasing penalties for attacking police officers and government representatives
**Tsiskarishvili Speaks Out**
Petre Tsiskarishvili believes that these repressive measures will ultimately backfire. “No one was afraid of a 15-day detention, and no one will fear 60 days either,” he said. He urged the people to gather their strength, remain principled in their demonstrations, and understand the right sequence of actions: first, Georgia must be freed from this regime, and only then should truly fair and free elections be held.
