Irakli Garibashvili is the Prime Minister of Georgia and he delivered a speech during the UN Climate Change Conference COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh.
He notes that it was an honor to speak on behalf of Georgia.
“Dear colleagues, climate change is a challenge that faces our generation. We, as leaders in our countries, have a responsibility to find a resolution for the sake humanity and future generations. We have no time to deliberate, we must take swift and effective actions.
In this spirit Georgia is considering turning its Paris commitments into credible deliveries and increasing the ambitiousness of its Nationally Determined contributions in 2025. We have developed Georgia’s 2030 Climate Change Strategy, and a subsequent Action Plan in order to facilitate the ambitious agenda of climate change mitigation”, noted Garibashvili.
He said that Georgia’s Long-Term Low-Emission Development Strategy aims to achieve Carbon Neutrality in 2050 through unifying national efforts with international support, adding Georgia has one the cleanest grids.
“85% of our power comes from renewable sources. Increasing the share of renewables is a strategic goal for my country. We continue to support non-traditional renewable energies such as solar, geothermal, hydrogen and other sustainable sources.
I am certain that our negotiations in Sharm El Sheikh will result in a robust framework to increase the resilience of our nations. These efforts will only be effective when the perspectives and contexts from developing countries in all areas are taken into consideration,” he said.
