Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic spoke out against the events that took place in Novi Sad on Friday. He said that the actions of opposition city assembly councilors were an example of political terror and violence.
The councilors had blocked the City Hall, clashing with police in riot gear. The prime minister described a flag used by protesters as a “rag with satanic symbols”. This flag features a bloodstained hand symbol, which has been used to call for accountability over the deaths of 15 people killed by a collapsed roof at Novi Sad Train Station.
The prime minister said that the City Hall is not a place for opposition councilors to gather. He believed that state authorities would take all legal measures against those responsible for the violence. Vucevic also appealed to anyone organizing gatherings to inform the police and follow the law.
He expressed concern about the rule of law in Serbia, saying that the country must move on from the tragedy at Novi Sad train station. The prime minister called on the police and courts to do their job by respecting the Constitution and laws.
Vucevic also complained about attacks on the offices of his party, the Serbian Progressive Party. He said that the same laws should apply to everyone.
