**Poland Scrambles Jets Amid Russian Missile Attack**
On February 1, Poland’s Armed Forces quickly mobilized their aircraft in response to a large-scale missile attack by Russia on western Ukraine. The Polish military said that fighter jets were dispatched and ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance assets were put on high alert.
According to Ukraine’s Air Force, Russia launched a combined attack of 165 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and missiles at Ukraine overnight and in the morning on February 1. Ukrainian air defense intercepted 56 Russian UAVs.
**Damage Reported in Ukraine**
At least seven people were killed and 14 injured in a residential building strike in Poltava. Civilian enterprises and infrastructure in several oblasts, including Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv, Khmelnytsky, and Kyiv, were damaged.
**Poland’s Response**
This is not the first time Poland has scrambled jets amid Russian attacks on Ukraine. The country has taken similar measures over the past year.
**Ukraine Reports High Casualties**
The Ukrainian State Emergency Service reported that a Russian missile struck a residential building in Poltava on February 1, killing at least three people and injuring 10 others. Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, called it a “terrorist crime.”
