**Poland to Modernize All Civilian Airports for Military Use**
Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said on February 25 that all civilian airports in the country must be modernized and adapted for potential use by the military. This would allow them to serve as transport hubs, evacuation points, cargo hubs, or aid points in case of an emergency.
According to Kosiniak-Kamysz, every airport in Poland should be able to work with the military. He stated that such adaptations are necessary to ensure that airports can meet the needs of both civilians and the military.
Some major Polish airports are already undergoing modernization. Work is being done at Katowice and Wroclaw airports, including the construction of a cargo hub with fuel supplies and a railway siding. Preparatory processes have also started at Krakow airport.
Poland’s decision to adapt its civilian airports for dual military use comes as the country takes steps to boost its defense capabilities since Russia‘s invasion of Ukraine. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has been advocating for increased defense spending across NATO, arguing that if all European members matched Poland’s spending, NATO’s defense budget would be ten times that of Russia’s.
