Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk Speaks Out on Ukraine Peacekeeping Mission
Poland’s prime minister, Donald Tusk, held a press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron. Tusk talked about the possibility of a European peacekeeping mission in Ukraine.
Tusk said that no such actions are planned. He wanted to “end speculation” about the topic. He also mentioned that decisions on Polish actions will be made in Warsaw and only in Warsaw.
Macron stressed that Ukraine should decide its own course of action. He said, “Strong security in Ukraine means strong security in Europe.” He also highlighted the importance of giving Ukraine security guarantees.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky responded to Macron’s suggestion of deploying foreign peacekeepers. Zelensky said Ukraine might consider this proposal but only after securing a clear timeline for NATO membership.
Reports suggest that the UK and France are considering deploying peacekeepers to Ukraine in case of a ceasefire. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock hasn’t ruled out this possibility either. A US peace plan also includes European troops overseeing a peaceful post-war Ukraine.
Ukraine’s leadership prioritizes NATO integration as its main security goal.
Russia Attacked Ukraine with Missiles
On December 13, Russia launched a large-scale aerial attack against Ukraine, firing missiles across multiple regions.
The IAEA Board of Governors passed a resolution condemning attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure but didn’t name Russia directly.
NATO Will Help Ukrainian Military Instructors
Ukrainian military instructors will receive training in Lithuania as part of NATO’s Defense Education Enhancement Program (DEEP). This program is valued at $500 million, according to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
