Police: Most of the bomb threats that police received came from Russian IP addresses

The National announced on October 15 that they had examined more than 2,00 messages with bomb threats. They launched a full investigation.
On Oct. 14, hundreds of Ukrainian schools, businesses and media outlets including the Kyiv Independent received bomb threats by email. This prompted the evacuation of state institutions.
After examining the incident, police confirmed that all threats were false. According to reports, the vast majority of messages came from Russian IP addresses.
“Such messages are typical of that are waging hybrid warfare against Ukraine and trying to cause panic and exhaust the state and law enforcement agencies,” police said on October 15.
The threats seemed to be linked to a recent Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL), investigation into the sabotage attempts of Russian security services in Ukraine.
The sender claimed that he represented a “terrorist organization” and said three RFE/RL investigative journalists were responsible for the attack. The name of the group is identical to that of a Telegram channel which calls for Ukrainian military personnel to be set on fire.
RFE/RL’s investigative project Schemes published a report, on 10 October, documenting how Russian security forces recruit Ukrainians to burn the cars of military personnel and recruitment officials.
The email threatening the journalists who wrote the report was addressed to them.
Stephen Capus, RFE/RL’s President, said: “We will not be threatened and will stand behind our journalists who will continue to report news to Ukrainian audiences in a fearless manner.”
Capus has pledged to work with authorities on the investigation.
In an interview with Kremlin’s RIA , published on October 15, Peter Szijjarto, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that Budapest and Russia’s state-owned Gazprom are in discussions on additional gas purchases next year.
