Poland’s Top General on Russia and NATO
Poland’s Chief General Staff, General Wieslaw Kukula, made it clear that his country will not shoot down Russian missiles or drones over Ukraine. This is in line with Poland’s previous stance.
Russia launches many drone attacks every night against Ukraine, also targeting civilian areas and infrastructure. Occasionally, explosive drones are launched into NATO countries like Romania, Poland, and Lithuania.
When asked if Poland could intercept missiles approaching from Ukrainian territories, General Kukula said no. “Our responsibility for allied aerial defense is defined by the borders of our country,” he stated. This means that Poland will not take on this duty unless a threat directly reaches its own border.
