**Most Ukrainians Support Idea of Restoring Nuclear Arms**
A recent poll conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology has found that 73% of Ukrainians support the idea of restoring Ukraine’s nuclear weapons. This comes as the country marks the 30th anniversary of giving up its Soviet–era nuclear arsenal in exchange for international security guarantees.
**Majority Willing to Lose Western Aid**
The poll, which was conducted between December 2 and 17 among 2,000 respondents living in Ukraine-controlled territories, found that around half of those surveyed would support the development of nuclear weapons even at the price of losing Western aid and coming under sanctions.
**Kyiv Remains Committed to Nuclear Non-Proliferation Policy**
Despite these findings, Kyiv has reaffirmed its commitment to the nuclear non-proliferation policy. The government has stated that it has no plans to build nuclear weapons and is instead seeking NATO membership as a viable security guarantee.
**Ukrainian Official Speaks Out**
The executive director of the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, Anton Hrushetskyi, has spoken out about the poll’s findings. He noted that Ukrainians are increasingly concerned about their country’s security and are looking for effective guarantees to protect them from Russia.
“It’s about our democracy, it’s about influencing our public opinion, it’s about what happens in Africa, it’s about raw materials, it’s about the instrumentalization of migration,” Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said.
