Pope Francis Urges Negotiations to End Ukraine War
The Pope has called for talks between Ukraine and Russia to stop the war that started when Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. In his Christmas message, he said both sides need to be brave enough to talk to each other to achieve peace.
Ukraine was hit by a big Russian attack on Christmas Day, with over 180 missiles and drones used. This came after the Pope had earlier urged Ukraine to negotiate an end to the war. Ukraine refused, saying it would not give up its fight for independence.
The Pope also talked about other conflicts in his message. He asked for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages held by Hamas. He is concerned about the Christian communities in Israel and Palestine, where many people have been killed or taken hostage.
Pope Francis has criticized Israel’s attacks on Gaza as “cruelty”. This angered Israel, which said his words were disappointing. The Pope also mentioned Syria and Lebanon, where Christians are worried about their future after years of war.
He asked everyone to work towards peace and an end to conflicts around the world. He wants people to be brave enough to talk to each other and find solutions to problems.
