**Ukrainian Writer Honored for Freedom of Expression Fight**
A special award was given to Ukrainian writer Victoria Amelina at a meeting in Mexico. The International Publishers Association awarded her the Special Prix Voltaire Award.
Victoria Amelina wrote books like “Syndrome of November” and “Water Heart”. She also worked as a war crimes documenter for Truth Hounds, an organization that helps people who have been affected by the war.
Amelina was killed in a Russian missile strike in 2023. Her work continues to inspire people to fight for freedom of expression.
The award was accepted by Oleksandra Matviichuk from the Center for Civil Liberties. This group was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2022.
Many people came up to Matviichuk after her speech and said they knew Amelina personally. They remembered her from book festivals and art events.
Amelina’s work will be released again soon. Her book “War & Justice Diary” will come out next spring.
