**Russia Attacks Ukraine’s Power Plants**
On November 17, Russia launched a big air attack on Ukraine. The attack was one of the biggest in months and lasted for five hours. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted over 140 targets that were coming to hurt the country.
**Many Targets Hit**
The Russian military used around 120 missiles and 90 drones in the attack. They targeted thermal power plants, which are important for providing electricity to homes and businesses. The attack caused power outages across Ukraine, leaving many people without electricity.
**Casualties Reported**
Unfortunately, at least three civilians were killed and 11 others were hurt in the attack. Ukrainian officials said this was a deliberate attempt by Russia to harm ordinary people.
**Russia’s Goal**
This is not an isolated incident. Since October 2022, Russia has been targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure with missile and drone attacks. They want to disrupt people’s daily lives, especially during the winter months when it gets cold.
**Ukraine’s Defense**
The Ukrainian air defense system, known as Patriot, was stretched thin in this attack. They had to deal with a lot of different types of missiles, including some that are very hard to stop.
