During a briefing held on 7 October, President Salome Zurabishvili addressed Georgians, including expatriates at the Orbeliani Palace. She called for their mobilization in preparation for the October elections, and announced the creation of a Coordination Platform on the day of elections at the Orbeliani Palace “to monitor all that will occur on that day” as well as “to celebrate together the victory.”
She reiterated the importance of the elections, which she said had never been more important in the history Georgia. She called on Georgians on 26 October to turn out in great numbers to defeat electoral fraud.
Zurabishvili stated that despite the obstacles erected by the CEC and the MFA, as well as the Georgian consulates overseas, a large portion of the Georgian diaspora managed to register for elections. The President urged these bodies to take the necessary steps to allow registered voters to exercise their voting rights, and warned that they would be held accountable for not doing so.
She noted that the diaspora had been very active recently in registering to cast a vote and added that no vote should be wasted to protect Georgia’s European independence and future.
She called on citizens mobilize to defend their vote. The President emphasized that everyone is accountable for their vote and called on voters, particularly the youth, to undergo a training to monitor elections.
