I wanted to form a technical coalition with four pro-European political parties. However, the ruling party refused to give us the chance to do so, as it would retain 30% of the seats in the parliament, and be a democratic force of opposition. In an interview with “Deutsche Welle”, Salome Zurabishvili, the Georgian president, said that this path was not chosen. They chose dictatorship over democracy.
According to her, the “Georgian Dream”, aspired for a constitutional majority. This explains the extent to which violations were observed during the election.
“First, “Georgian Dream”, has no intention to form a coalition, they have the majorities. They wanted to achieve a constitutional majority. I think this explains the number of violations. They aimed to get 60% of the vote in order to continue a program which included impeaching the President, arresting opposition forces, and prosecuting certain opposition parties. This is not a coalition program. The coalition was a pro-European program. I wanted to form a technical coalition with four pro-European parties in order to facilitate the launch.
