Irakli Garbashvili and Recep T. Tayyip Erdoan, President of Turkey, discussed today a number of topics, including strategic partnership, trade and economy relations, and security in the region and around the world.
The meeting held within the framework of the United Nations General Assembly was centered on the importance of close friendship and partnership relations between the two countries. The meeting noted the importance of the strategic partnership between Georgia and Republic of Turkey, the political dynamics of high level bilateral interaction, and the engagement and active collaboration of Georgia and Republic of Turkey on projects of regional geopolitical nature.
The war in Ukraine, and the challenges it poses to the complex security environment in the world and the region were also discussed. Peace and stability are essential for the development and long-term success of the region. In this context, the agreement reached between Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Garibashvili last year, which resulted in Azerbaijan releasing Armenian prisoners in exchange for maps that Armenia shared with Azerbaijan, was praised. The statement was made that the development of the region is dependent on the continued advancement of effective cooperation between Georgia, Republic of Turkey and other countries. The Prime Minister of Georgia invited President of the Republic of Turkey in Georgia.
