**Police Crack Down on Georgian Activists**
The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, has spoken out against the treatment of young activists in the country. She posted a message on her personal page about the situation.
**Punitive Measures Against Activists**
Zurabishvili wrote that “punitive measures are being taken” against young Georgian activists. These include beatings by police forces, arrests, and even threats of up to 7 years in prison. One example she gave was a girl named Lizi Tirkia.
**The Case Against Lizi Tirkia**
Lizi Tirkia is accused of assaulting five police officers during a rally. However, according to her Facebook post, the Special Investigation Service told her that they were the ones who attacked the police and then ran away.
**Background on the Situation**
On November 19, there was a confrontation between the police and protesters on Melikishvili Avenue. During this event, 16 people were arrested in an administrative manner. Some of them were later released after signing a document, while two others were sentenced to 8 days in prison with a fine of 2,700 GEL.
**One Person Arrested**
In addition to these cases, one person was arrested on charges of attacking police officers during the protest. President Zurabishvili’s post highlights her concerns about the treatment of young activists in Georgia.
