**Georgia’s President Warns of Russian Influence**
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has spoken out against Russian influence in the region. In an interview with Fox News, she warned that Georgia is facing threats from Russia and called for renewed American attention to the area.
**Threats from Russia**
President Zurabishvili said that Russia is trying to destabilize countries in the Caucasus and Black Sea regions through rigged elections and the installation of “puppet regimes”. She stressed that this would be detrimental to US interests in the region.
**Georgia’s Importance**
Zurabishvili emphasized that Georgia has been a key recipient of US aid for 30 years, due to its strategic importance. She said that Georgia represents energy roots, trade roots, and a connection to Central Asia, making it a “stronghold of democracy” and shared values.
**US Support Needed**
The President urged the US to continue supporting Georgia, expressing hope that the US government would align with the Georgian people rather than the current regime, which she said lacks legitimacy. She also warned that if Georgia’s key Black Sea ports fall into Chinese hands, it could pose a significant risk.
**Meetings with US Officials**
During her visit to the US, President Zurabishvili met with key members of the future Trump administration, including Marco Rubio and Pete Hegseth. She described these meetings as initial steps to “bring Georgia to their minds” and establish first contacts with the new administration.
