The Prosecutor’s General‘s Office in Ukraine reported that two soldiers were killed by Russian forces in the Kursk Oblast of Russia on November 11. This is not an isolated incident, as Ukrainian authorities receive regular reports of murders, torture, and ill treatment of prisoners of war.
**Reports of War Crimes Increase**
Most cases of abuse have been reported in the Donetsk Oblast. A video was shared on social media showing Russian troops allegedly shooting two unarmed Ukrainian soldiers in Kursk Oblast. The date of the video is unknown. An investigation into the incident has been launched by the Prosecutor General’s Office.
**War Crimes Documented**
Videos and photos document potential war crimes, including drone footage of prisoners of war being shot as they surrendered. Other videos show torture and violent deaths in Russian captivity. As of November 6, 2018, at least 124 Ukrainian prisoner of wars had been executed by Russian forces since 2022.
**A “Deliberate Russian Policy”**
Former Prosecutor-General Andriy Kostin described the killing of Ukrainian soldiers in captivity as a “deliberate Russian policy”. The trend of executing prisoners of war began to emerge in November 2023, when there was a change in attitude towards Ukrainian prisoners of warfare for the worse.
