**Georgian Prosecutor’s Office Launches Investigation**
The Georgian Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into alleged cases of sabotage and assistance to foreign organizations. The investigation was launched on February 8, after a complaint from the “United Neutral Georgia” movement.
This group is known for its pro-government and anti-Western views. They accused both domestic and foreign actors of engaging in activities that threaten Georgia’s security and constitutional order.
The Prosecutor’s Office said it would investigate allegations of sabotage, which is punishable by five to ten years’ imprisonment under Georgian law. The investigation also includes charges of assisting a foreign country or organization in hostile activities against Georgia, which can lead to seven to 15 years in prison.
The Georgian State Security Service and the Interior Ministry are also involved in the investigation to ensure it is comprehensive and objective.
**Background**
There have been previous accusations by pro-government groups against Western organizations and embassies. In January, the “United Neutral Georgia” movement accused opposition parties of espionage. In February, they claimed that US Embassy, USAID, NED, EED, and foreign-funded CSOs were working together to undermine Georgia.
