Protesters Set Up Feast on Rustaveli Avenue
A big change happened on Tbilisi’s main street, Rustaveli Avenue. Instead of blocking traffic with a protest, people set up a New Year’s feast.
Citizens brought tables and put them along the central part of the avenue. The tables go from Freedom Square to the Tbilisi Marriott Hotel. People wanted to extend the feast all the way to Republic Square, but police stopped them at the hotel.
The feast was decorated with red and white colors, which are on the Georgian flag. Many different groups joined in, including actors, singers, doctors, and students. They brought traditional food from Georgia to share with each other.
