Tensions Remain High in Occupied Abkhazia
Opposition members who were detained after a protest on Tuesday have been released. However, the situation in occupied Abkhazia remains tense.
The opposition has announced plans for a large-scale demonstration to take place on November 15. They are protesting against Russia‘s growing influence in the region and a new investment treaty between Russia and Abkhazia.
This treaty will allow Russian companies to enter the Abkhazian market with favorable terms. The government of Sokhumi, which is not recognized by Georgia or most other countries, will discuss an investment agreement with Moscow on November 15.
It is unclear how President Aslan Bzhania will calm the situation. Some experts think that postponing the ratification of the Russia-Abkhazia agreement would be a good solution.
