**Russia Updates Nuclear Doctrine**

Vladimir Putin has approved new principles for Russia’s nuclear deterrence policy. This was announced in decree 19.

The updated doctrine says that Russia could use nuclear force if it is attacked by a non-nuclear country with the help of a nuclear power, or if there are large-scale attacks using drones.

Putin first talked about changing the nuclear doctrine at a meeting with his security council on September 25. He said that Russia doesn’t need to be able to a preventive strike. Instead, it would use a retaliatory strike and destroy its enemy completely.
