**Russia’s New Missiles Ready for Use, Says Putin**
Russian President Vladimir Putin says his country has a stock of powerful new missiles ready to be used. This comes after Russia fired a ballistic missile at the Ukrainian city of Dnipro.
In an unscheduled TV address, Putin said the Oreshnik missile is too fast to be intercepted and promised to carry out more tests. He also ordered the production of these hypersonic missiles, which can travel 10 times faster than sound speed.
**Ukraine Seeks Help from West**
The Ukrainian government has asked Western partners for updated air defense systems, including the US Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system or to upgrade its Patriot anti-ballistic missile defenses. This is in response to Russia’s use of the new Oreshnik missile.
**Leaders Warn of Global Conflict**
This week’s escalation in the war between Russia and Ukraine has prompted warnings from other world leaders about the potential for global conflict. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the war was entering a decisive stage, while Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban urged the West to take Putin’s warnings seriously.
North Korea‘s leader Kim Jong Un also warned of increased tensions, accusing the US of having an aggressive policy towards Pyongyang.
