Renée Van Lanschot: No Travel Ban is Enough to Help Georgia
Renée Van Lanschot says a travel ban for people with diplomatic passports is not enough to help Georgia. She thinks the European Union should take bigger steps.
The EU has already started to put some sanctions on Georgia, but Renée Van Lanschot thinks they are too small. “Sanctions are the first step,” she said. “But they should not be the last.”
Renée Van Lanschot wants people in power to do more to help Georgia. She says they should stop being friends with the Georgian Dream government and instead meet with opposition leaders.
She also suggests that personal financial sanctions could be used. This means that some people involved in making Georgia’s current situation bad would not be allowed to travel easily to Europe.
Renée Van Lanschot thinks that the United States has already taken good steps, so we should follow their example. She wants more talks to see what else can be done and which sanctions could be used.
