**MEP Calls for Action to Support Georgia**
A European Parliament member is urging the international community to take action before December 29. Rasa Juknevičienė says that urgent help is needed to stop a “creeping dictatorship” in Georgia.
She points out that only one leader, President Salome Zourabichvili, was elected democratically. Experts warn that if an oligarch-controlled president takes power, there’s a risk of martial law and the detention of opposition leaders, including the President.
**Key Steps Needed**
Juknevičienė suggests several steps:
* Reject last month’s parliamentary elections as invalid
* Recognize President Zourabichvili as the legitimate leader until new elections are held
* Hold free and fair elections in Georgia
* Sanction Bidzina Ivanishvili, an oligarch who undermines democracy
* Encourage state leaders to visit Georgia to facilitate new elections
**European Solidarity Needed**
Juknevičienė emphasizes that European solidarity is crucial for Georgia. She calls on the international community to help keep Georgia on its path towards Europe.
