Shooting in Abkhazia Leaves One Dead, Another Injured
A shooting took place at the people’s assembly building in Georgia‘s Russian-occupied region of Abkhazia. The incident happened on December 19.
One person was killed and another injured in the shooting. The suspected shooter, Adgur Kharazia, is a council member. He fled the scene after the shooting.
The victim who was hospitalized has a wound to his arm. The other victim died at the scene. Local officials are investigating the incident.
A Telegram channel reported that there was an argument between Kharazia and another council member before the shooting occurred. They were discussing a bill about banning mining in the region.
Abkhazia is a Russian-occupied area after a war with Tbilisi in 2008. Russia supports the local government, but both Abkhazia and South Ossetia are recognized as part of Georgia internationally.
