**Thousands of People Rally in Ljubljana to Support Serbian Students**
A large crowd gathered in Ljubljana, Slovenia on Saturday to show their support for students in Serbia. The protesters also demanded that Mayor Zoran Jankovic apologize for his support of the Serbian government.
The rally, called “Ljubljana Rises,” started with a moment of silence to remember the 15 people who died in the collapse of a canopy at the Novi Sad Railway Station on November 1. The protesters then marched to the Ljubljana City Hall, where they presented four demands.
**Mayor’s Support for Serbian President Criticized**
The first demand was for Mayor Jankovic to apologize to students in Serbia and citizens and students in Ljubljana. The second demand was for him to publicly support Serbian students who have been blocking faculties for months. The third demand was for him to refrain from calling for elections in Serbia until all student demands are met.
The final demand was addressed to all members of the City Assembly, asking them to state their positions on the protests in Serbia. Mayor Jankovic had recently expressed his support for Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and even sent him an official letter of support.
**Memorial for Novi Sad Victims**
In front of the Ljubljana City Hall, 15 chairs were placed in memory of those who died in Novi Sad. If the demands are not met within a week, pressure on the city authorities will increase.
The protest took place on “Preseren Day,” a national holiday celebrating culture in Slovenia. The Slovenian Association of Dramatic Artists organized poetry readings across the country, and when the protest march passed Preseren Square, the program was briefly interrupted in support of the student demands.
**Support for Serbian Students**
A young man in the protest march spoke to N1, saying that he was there to support students who are fighting in Serbia. He felt a moral obligation to support them and told them not to give up. The protesters set up 15 chairs with dolls placed on two of them, as two young girls also lost their lives in the accident.
