Serbian Pensions Under Attack
A group of retired military personnel says the country‘s president is lying about pensions. The Association of Unions of Retired Military Personnel claims that President Aleksandar Vucic is saying pensions are higher than ever, but this is not true.
The organization points out that most neighboring countries make sure their lowest pensions are above the poverty line. However, in Serbia, almost half a million pensioners get less than 24,987 Dinars per month. This is below the country’s minimum monthly wage of around 47,000 Dinars.
Retired farmers fare even worse, getting only 19,644 Dinars a month. The group says most pensioners in Serbia live in poverty due to these low payments. They accuse politicians of making false promises during election campaigns.
This statement from the Association of Unions of Retired Military Personnel shows the frustration many Serbian pensioners feel about their living conditions.
