Revaz Kiknadze, a defendant in a Georgian court case, spoke out against his accusers during a hearing. He was charged by the Ministry of Internal Affairs with participating in group violence during a protest on November 25.
Kiknadze took the opportunity to address the judge and the courtroom. He read from a book called “The Feast of the Fly” but was not allowed to bring it into court.
He quoted famous Georgian writer Ilia Chavchavadze, saying: “Fire to the oligarchy,” “Don‘t be afraid of revolution, dear reader,” – Slavery will never be called peace.”
Kiknadze continued to speak about his views on politics and freedom. He said that in the end, dictators die alone, as is the case with every tyrant.
The judge, Lela Tsagareishvili, cut off Kiknadze’s speech multiple times. She told him to focus on discussing the circumstances of the case. However, Kiknadze continued to speak out against what he saw as unjust systems and oppression.
Eventually, Kiknadze was escorted out of the courtroom after speaking his final words.
