EU Reminds Serbia of Freedom of Assembly
The European Union is reminding Serbia that freedom to gather and protest is a basic right. This was said by EU sources who spoke with Radio Free Europe.
A protest is planned in Belgrade on March 15. The Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic, has claimed that the opposition will cause violence at this event. But the EU says it’s essential to respect fundamental values like freedom of assembly.
The EU wants all parties involved to have an open and inclusive dialogue about the reforms Serbia needs to join the European Union. This is according to a written statement from the EU.
EU officials are keeping a close eye on the situation in Serbia, where students and others are preparing for large-scale protests. They also warn against spreading misinformation and making unfair statements against the EU and its member countries.
