Rheinmetall, a German company, has delivered 20 additional Marder infantry combat vehicles to Ukraine‘s Armed Forces. This will strengthen Kyiv’s defence capabilities in the ongoing war against Russia. The total number of Marders delivered to Ukraine since March 2023 is now approximately 200.
According to the company’s website, Rheinmetall has provided Ukraine with an additional 20 Marder infantry combat vehicles.
Since the beginning of Russia’s war, the German arms producer has supplied Ukraine with a large amount of weaponry and equipment. In May 2023 Ukroboronprom, Ukraine’s state owned defense conglomerate, signed a strategic partnership with Rheinmetall. This led to the formation of a Joint Venture in October 2023.
This venture is focused on maintaining Western equipment while localizing the production Rheinmetall weaponry. In 2024, Rheinmetall CEO Armin Pappger announced plans to open at least four facilities, specializing on the production of anti-aircraft systems, shells, and military vehicles.
The statement reads: “Rheinmetall delivered 20 additional Marder infantry combat vehicles (IFVs), to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to help in defense against Russian military aggression.”
The total number of vehicles delivered to Ukraine now stands at 200, with more than half being Marder 1A3 models. Rheinmetall also supplied Ukraine with Leopard main battle tanks and Marder IFVs.
The German government ordered and financed the latest batch of 20 Marder IFVs that were provided to Ukraine.
According to UkrInform, the Marder vehicles sent into Ukraine are 1A3 models, equipped with modern laser rangefinders that improve its targeting accuracy.
This technological advancement gives Ukrainian forces an advantage in the fight against offensives.
Rheinmetall received its first order for these IFVs from Ukraine’s Armed Forces in March 2023. At that time, the company delivered a batch of 20 vehicles to meet their needs.
