OSCE Visit to Georgia Criticized as a “Spineless and Unprincipled Decision”
The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly‘s planned visit to Georgia is being questioned by European Parliament member Rihards Kols. The visit of OSCE President Pia Kauma is scheduled for January 8-10.
Kols thinks the timing of the visit is bad. He says that during this time, the government in Georgia is taking control through arrests and strict laws. There have also been violent responses to protests.
Many people are upset about the planned visit. They think it would help the Georgian government look good and would damage the reputation of the OSCE.
Kols thinks Pia Kauma should visit Georgia as a private person, not as the head of the OSCE. This way, she wouldn’t be representing an organization that is funded by taxpayers who disagree with her actions.
