Bidzina Ivanishvili in Trouble with Swiss Bank
Bidzina Ivanishvili, the leader of the Georgian Dream party, is having problems with a third Swiss bank. He wants to take them to court, but it’s unlikely he will win.
According to Roman Gotsiridze, an opposition politician, the bank is following the rules set by international sanctions. This means that even if Ivanishvili goes to court in Switzerland, he won’t succeed.
Gotsiridze said that this is because the Swiss bank is giving Ivanishvili a chance to change his ways and comply with the law. If Ivanishvili’s name or his foundation’s name are included in the sanctions list, all of his financial systems will collapse.
Ivanishvili’s wife, Uta Ivanishvili, is already on the sanctions list, but that hasn’t happened yet. This means that if her name appears on the list, Ivanishvili’s whole financial world will collapse.
Gotsiridze said that there is still hope for Ivanishvili to change and comply with the law. If he doesn’t, dark days are ahead.
Ivanishvili plans to take Julius Baer, a Swiss bank, to court over unpaid obligations and demands for compensation. He also claims that the bank is using political blackmail by freezing his bank accounts and linking it to American sanctions.
