The Romanian Defense Ministry reported that radar systems in Romania detected an unidentified flying object near the Black Sea during the overnight attack by Russia on Ukraine on October 19, 2010.
This is the second violation of Romanian airspace this week, following an incident that occurred only one day ago. Romania and Belarus scrambled their jets to respond to targets flying in the airspace of their countries during the Russian drone strike on Ukraine late on October 17.
On October 19, Romania scrambled again two F-16 fighters and two Spanish F-18s, which are used to conduct air police missions in the country.
In both incidents the targets vanished from the radars, before the pilots were able to find them. The Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu stated on October 18 that the incident may have been a cyber-attack against the country’s defence system, since “pilots had no visual contact with drone.”
On Oct. 19, Russia launched 98 drones, six missiles and caused destruction in three Ukrainian regions. This led to injuries and power outages.
Romania, as a NATO member state, has reported a number of incidents where its airspace has been violated during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It also condemned the Russian attacks on Ukraine, calling them violations of international law.
During the past year, debris of Russian drones was found on Romanian territory. Russia had been attacking Ukrainian infrastructure.
According to Ukraine’s military intelligence, on October 19, Russian Major Dmitriy Privukha, accused of war crimes against Ukraine and allegedly involved in war crime, was killed after his car exploded in the middle of Russian-occupied Luhansk.
The Energy Ministry of Ukraine reported that on the morning Oct. 19, over 73,000 customers in three oblasts had been left without electricity as a result of recent Russian attacks.
“Kremniy EL”, one of the largest microelectronics factories in Russia, produces components that are widely used in Russian defence production. These include Pantsir air-defense systems and Iskander rocket systems.
According to the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, this number includes 1,380 casualties Russian troops suffered in the last day.
“Yesterday, after the inspection they told me I was leaving in 30 minutes, but they did not tell me where. On the way, we learned about the exchange.
The prisoners returned also included some Russian fighters mobilized and contract soldiers including kadyrovtsy – the notoriously brutal troops named after Chechen strongman Ramzan Kadyrov.
Anastasia Bobovnikova said, “The overall strategic positioning of the city remains under Ukraine’s control,” on October 18.
On October 18, Ukraine and Russia conducted their 58th Prisoner Exchange, involving over 190 prisoners of War, announced President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The United States will reward up to $10 million anyone who can provide information that prevents or disrupts foreign interference in elections linked to the state-sponsored Rybar organization. This was announced by the U.S. State Department. Rybar and its staff are accused of using social networks to interfere in the upcoming U.S. Presidential election.
A White House readout said that the leaders of the United States and France, Germany and the United Kingdom discussed the five-point plan for victory in Ukraine as well as plans to offer additional military and humanitarian assistance on October 18 during high-level discussions in Berlin.
Ukraine’s Center for Strategic Communication and Information Security has published a video purporting to show North Korean soldiers in Russian military camps preparing to join Moscow’s war effort against Ukraine.
The latest aid package for Kyiv contains weapons from Denmark’s stocks, funding for air defence systems with Germany, as well as contributions to the U.K. led International Fund for Ukraine.

According to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, which tracks international aid for Ukraine (IfW Kiel), Germany and the Netherlands allocated 15 billion euro ($16.2 billion) and 6.9 billion euros ($6.9billion), respectively.
