**Russian Troops Launch Assault on Ukrainian-Controlled Town**
Russian forces have launched an attack on the Ukrainian-controlled town of Sudzha in Russia’s Kursk Oblast. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) and the Russian state news agency TASS reported that Russian troops entered the town, with fighting ongoing.
According to ISW analysts, Russian forces are advancing within Sudzha itself and in nearby settlements. However, these claims could not be immediately verified. The Ukrainian military command has been contacted for comment, but a statement is expected later.
Sudzha is located less than 10 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, with Kursk lying 85 kilometers to the northeast. Russia claimed to have recaptured 12 settlements and 100 square kilometers in Kursk Oblast on March 11.
**Ukraine’s Response**
Ukrainian forces are repositioning to “favorable defense lines” according to Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi. He also noted that some Russian-claimed settlements “no longer exist” due to shelling by Ukrainian forces.
Russia and Ukraine have been involved in a conflict over the Kursk Oblast region since August 2024, with Ukrainian forces initially seizing around 1,300 square kilometers of Russian territory.
**US Assistance**
The US has paused military and intelligence assistance to Ukraine after reports of Russian advances. However, the support was resumed on March 11 after Ukraine agreed to a temporary ceasefire proposal.
Tulsi Gabbard confirmed that the US had resumed sharing intelligence with Ukraine per President Donald Trump’s direction.
Russian attacks across Ukraine killed at least 14 civilians and injured at least 33 over the past day, regional authorities reported. The casualties included children and Syrian crew members of a merchant vessel in Odesa.
The situation remains fluid, with multiple parties involved in the conflict.
