The Ukrainian air defenses worked to repel an attack of Russian drones that targeted Kyiv, the capital’s 5th aerial attack in this month.
Russia launched a series attacks on Ukraine over night on 11 October. This resulted in multiple casualties as well as damage to civilian infrastructures in Odesa. Oleh Kiper, the Governor of Odesa Oblast said that a ballistic rocket strike in the Odesa Oblast killed four people including an 18-year-old teenager and injured ten more.
The attack is part a Russian campaign that aims to terrorize civilians by launching deliberate air strikes every day on residential areas. The Russian forces launch dozens “kamikaze”, long-range drones, every night. Often they also launch missiles.
The attack destroyed a 2-story building. Kiper said that people were trapped under the rubble. Emergency services rescued 4 individuals, but 3 people died on the scene. These included a woman aged 43, a man aged 22, and a girl aged 16. According to the governor, a fourth victim died later in hospital.
The attack injured 10 other people. Nine are currently hospitalized, and four are in critical condition.
Air raid sirens were heard in Kyiv as the capital was facing its fifth aerial attack, since the beginning October. The Kyiv City Military Administration said that air defense systems were activated as Russian drones approached Kyiv.
Later, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the sounds of explosions as air defenses were operating in the capital.
Air raid alerts are still active as of 8:35 am in Kyiv Oblast. The Air Force has reported the presence of drones over Kyiv, and other Ukrainian oblasts.
