**Russia Attacks Ukraine’s Energy Infrastructure**
Russia launched a large attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure early on December 13. They fired around 290 missiles and drones across multiple regions.
The Ukrainian Energy Minister, Herman Halushchenko, said: “The enemy continues its terror. Once again, the energy sector across Ukraine is under massive attack.”
**Explosions Reported**
Explosions were reported in several regions, including Kyiv Oblast, where air defense was active. Other regions affected include Odesa, Vinnytsia, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Cherkasy.
**Missiles and Drones Used**
Russian forces used a variety of missiles, including those supplied by North Korea. President Volodymyr Zelensky said that at least 93 missiles were launched, with 81 shot down, including 11 by Ukrainian F-16 fighter jets. Russia also deployed close to 200 drones.
**Damage and Injuries**
The state energy operator Ukrenergo reported that several energy facilities in multiple regions were damaged. Repair works are underway, but the scope of emergency shutdowns will increase.
In Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, Governor Svitlana Onyshchuk said it was “the most massive attack during the full-scale war.” Two people were injured in Kharkiv Oblast, and five nuclear reactor units have reduced power output due to the attack.
**International Reaction**
The Polish Air Force scrambled its fighter jets as Russian drones and missiles entered western Ukraine. President Zelensky said that Russia’s actions are a “terrorizing” tactic and called for a strong reaction from the world.
