Just a few days ago, it was announced that the US and Russia would hold a second round of talks to end the war in Ukraine. These talks were set to take place in Saudi Arabia today. However, the first round of talks held on February 18 did not include Ukraine’s participation.
**US-Russia Agreements**
The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, said after the initial meeting that both sides agreed to pursue three main objectives. These include:
* Restoring embassy staff in Washington and Moscow
* Creating a team to help with peace talks in Ukraine
* Strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries
**Potential Trump-Putin Meeting**
Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergei Ryabkov, said that plans are being made for a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. This meeting could cover many global issues beyond the war in Ukraine.
Ryabkov stressed that such a summit would require “intensive preparatory work” to happen. He also mentioned that there might be another meeting between US and Russian envoys within two weeks to prepare for further high-level talks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has rejected any outcome from these talks, saying that Ukraine was not included in the discussions. European allies have also expressed concerns about being left out of the negotiations.
