Russia Prepares for New Attacks on Ukraine‘s Energy Grid
Russia is stockpiling missiles and drones, which may signal a new wave of attacks on Ukraine’s energy grid. This comes as Ukrainian forces disrupt Russia’s supplies of drone components.
The Russian government has been trying to cripple Ukraine’s electricity system since 2022. They have used drones and missiles to target power plants, water services, and heating facilities. The goal is to break civilian morale and hinder Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
Russia has a large number of missiles, including the Kh-101 and Kalibr types. These missiles can be used for strikes on energy facilities. The Russians are also working on accumulating ballistic missiles for future attacks.
Ukrainian forces have had some success in disrupting Russia’s drone operations. They have targeted production and storage sites for Shahed drone components. As a result, the number of Russian drones in the air has decreased. However, Russia is not giving up yet. The country is still producing drones at its factory in Tatarstan.
The Alabuga factory in Tatarstan has become the main producer of Shahed drones. They have produced 6,000 units and are working on a new contract to produce even more. Russia is using cheap labor, including teenagers and African women, to maintain high production levels.
Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Counteracting Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, says that Russia does not want the war to end. They are doing everything in their power to keep it going.
Russia’s military is still active on the battlefield. They are trying to advance towards Pokrovsk and hold onto islands in Kherson Oblast. Kovalenko emphasizes that the war continues, and Ukraine must remain vigilant.
